Paul Soldner: Thrown and Altered Clay
Paul Soldner introduced American-style raku and changed the course of contemporary ceramics. This program traces the evolution of his work over forty years from functional thrown stoneware to his nonfunctional raku sculptural forms and cast bronze pieces. We see over 50 examples of Soldner's work including the pivotal pieces that set new directions. Interweaved through the retrospective are segments of the artist in his studio throwing and altering clay and then firing the piece revealing how he creates his monumental clay sculptures.
